In my years of going through the traditionalist-paleoconservative Right and Catholic/Orthodox blogosphere, I've noticed a general tone of despair cataloguing the Great Malaise. Certainly this has been the case since that tragic event twenty years ago to the very day, with a brief respite of (phony) triumphalism reminding America and her suzerains that the liberal spirit that sustains the world order will not be put down by her enemies (never mind that these enemies, like the Mujahideen or Saddam Hussein were both American creations that were tasked with suppressing her enemies of yesteryear). Since then, we have seen our basic freedoms evaporate, our economy shatter and both sides of the political aisle gaslight us (the Bush Right's "jobs Americans won't do" and the Obama Left's "you didn't build that") as they engineer this general societal collapse.
The most recent manifestation of the Great Malaise is the VirusRegime. Liberal society inverted, like a flip of a switch, from one great big happy rainbow family to one where every man, woman and child is hermetically sealed and only aware of what's going on beyond themselves via electronic messaging. Where have I seen that before?
The paleo-trad Right once again hopped aboard the doom train, or if you permit me a different metaphor, found a purer batch of coke to help them keep chasing the doomer high. Part of this is understandable; given that the mass media swiveled rapidly from "COVID no deadlier than the flu" to "COVID is the deadliest virus known to man and if you hug and kiss you'll kill grandma" it is manifest that any illusion of a baseline of sanity in the world as we know it has shattered. The System is actively engaged in rewriting history in yet another attempt to gaslight us.
Most frighteningly of all, the "Peck" which was once vilified by the American Left as a political Hail Mary from the Trump Administration is now being championed by the same Left as the only way back to a sense of normalcy--the time before masks, before universal distancing, before System-mandated hypochondriasis--and so effective that the Biden Administration has called upon employers to threaten the livelihoods of those who haven't yet received their Peck. Whereas in bygone eras, protection from a disease was a vaccine's sole selling point and catching the disease was the sole risk of not taking it.
There is a meme going around from the Right that "conspiracy theories should now be known as spoiler alerts." Indeed, every System measure that was derided as a conspiracy theory is now coming into reality--particularly the Green Pass in various EU countries and the Biden Admin's threats against the UnPecked.
At a certain point, even as a true believer, all of this running around like panicked Chicken Littles shrieking "The sky is falling!" gets rather tiresome. To explain the title of this blog post, I am bucking the trend of the past few days' worth of dooming. Because it is tiresome. It is as tiresome as hanging out with actual hypochondriacs (the sort that existed before 2019) because it demands people with an even keel to sway to and from by the counsel of one's own fears, and if one does not have fear, to internalize the fears of others as a twisted form of empathy. What really upsets me most about the doomsaying is that it is largely Christians and Catholics who are indulging in it. Any Christian should know that their God is a loving God, that He sent His son to die for us, and that through this sacrifice Jesus has merited for us one of the many mansions in His Father's house. We know, from the testimony of St. Paul and from sacred tradition that the apostles suffered many persecutions and buffets to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all the nations, and even to their own enemies according to the flesh, so that they too may share in salvation.
St. Paul says in his second letter to Timothy (1:7) "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power, and of love, and of sobriety". This, he writes, in the context of his pain and sufferings delivering the Gospel to the Gentiles.
Our Lord also teaches the following (Luke 12:30-34) "And if the grass of the field, which is to day, and to morrow is cast into the oven, God doth so clothe: how much more you, O ye of little faith? Be not solicitous therefore, saying, What shall we eat: or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed? For after all these things do the heathens seek. For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things. Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you. Be not therefore solicitous for to morrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof."
I hope you can see what I'm getting at here. In worrying about (in no particular order) job loss, ostracism, a universal digital ID system, mean comments on Twitter, forced Pecking or even death, these Chicken Little Rightists have lost sight of the only True Good that is worth clinging to. They are a mirror of the godless Left, using selected words of Scripture or the Fathers and Doctors as a fig leaf to cover their own functional atheism.
Don't misunderstand; I know the Great Big Lies that support the VirusRegime, the Peck and the general worldwide satanic inversion agenda. I am not counseling anyone to submit to what they know is false and evil for the sake of appearances or continuity of lifestyle. What I am saying is that keeping a play-by-play of all the "conspiracy theory/spoiler alerts" and "Alex Jones was right" memes is a species of luxuriating in misery, not unlike the pathology of the nameless protagonist of Dostoevsky's Notes From Underground.
Know that God loves you, know that you must suffer like He did and put all other considerations behind you.
